INTRODUCTION

At IRIS, we have noticed that Trainees who have not undertaken a Keyword Classification course do not always grasp the fundamentals of the Records Disposal process as well as those who have undertaken a Keyword Classification course. The cause of this problem is because Classification is how files and folders are titled and therefore provide context to records. Classification dovetails directly with any Retention and Disposal Schedule or Authority used. Therefore, understanding how Classification is applied will also enable Trainees to better apply a Retention and Disposal Schedule or Authority.

To assist all Trainees to get the most out of any of our training courses they attend we now require that all people attending the Records Disposal training must have also undertaken some Keyword Classification training, before undertaking the Records Disposal training course.

You have several options for undertaking Keyword Classification training before attending the Records Disposal training:

  • Having previously attended IRIS Keyword Classification training, either In Person or Online
  • Confirming that you have previously attended another Training Provider’s Keyword Classification training course
  • Undertake the IRIS In Person Keyword Classification training or the IRIS Online Keyword Classification training
  • Selecting this Records Disposal Package to obtain a 5% discount

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Records officers, administration officers or Information Managers with responsibility for Records Management.

TRAINING PACKAGE OBJECTIVE

Understanding Keyword Classification ensures that records and documents – regardless of format – are placed in their correct context, which will facilitate making appropriate Sentencing and Disposal decisions.

This 2-day training package, made up of 2 separate in-person training courses, will provide participants with knowledge of specific records and document management concepts and how to translate these into practical solutions in the workplace.

The Keyword Classification Course that forms part of this training package will provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to use a keyword thesaurus, such as Keyword AAA (KAAA) or Keyword for Councils (KfC), to classify documents and create file titles.

Building upon this knowledge, the practical Records Disposal course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to establish a Disposal Program for their organisation.
